Affie 100 Fonds Trust

Online art auction 10-30 July 2021

About the auction

Hosted by the Affie 100 Fonds Trust, the online Affie100 Art Auction offers art collectors and art lovers the chance to obtain artworks from all over our country. What makes the Affie100 Art Auction different from other Art Auctions is that it is not an entirely commercial undertaking. Commercial auction houses source works from collectors and artists and put these ‘under the hammer’ with the sole purpose of obtaining the highest price for the work. The Affie 100 Art Auction forms part of the vision of the Affie 100 Fonds Trust of the Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool. The main intention of the Art Auction is therefore to contribute to this Trust Fund that has the objective to support feeding schemes and community upliftment programs in less privileged communities and to contribute to the upkeep and development of Affie facilities. Another aim of the Art Auction is to support the arts industry that has been severely hit by the impact of covid-19.

Art Auctions are public events. Offered online makes art available to anyone to peruse and participate in the viewing and bidding process. Like other auctions, the Affie 100 Fonds Trust created a catalogue of artworks providing media, size, date and title. It also includes a short bio on the artist and some information on the artist’s working process and/or the artwork itself. Visitors to the online website (https://veiling.affie100.co.za/auction/) can scroll through images and not only bid on works but also enjoy a glimpse of current art production in South Africa. An art auction is still one of the best places to buy art, but you need price guidance and information, which are provided. Some of the artists on auction include the work of internationally known sculptor Anton Smit; international award-winning artists Diane Victor, Dr. Jan van der Merwe, Tracy Payne; local award-winning artists Collen Maswanganyi, Ruhan Janse van Vuuren, Anton Karstel, Jaco Benade and Helena Hugo; academics Dr. Gwenneth Miller, Gordon Froud and Carl Jeppe; international glass artist Lothar Böttcher; Spanish-South African artist Pascual Tarazona; and well-known artists such as Eric Duplan, Michele Nigrini, Lynette ten Krooden, Wayne Vivier, Anna Liebenberg, Thabo Pitso, Tracy Algar, Philip Badenhorst, Natasja de Wet, Rosa Snyman-Wessels, Jan Tshikhuthula, Tanisha Bhana Cobus Haupt, Nina Torr, Hougaard Winterbach, Mary-Jane Morris, Susan Grundlingh, Peter Mammes, Lucas Bambo and Debbie Cloete. Three artists donated art work for the auction.

On auction are also a set of sketches by Marius B Badenhorst of the School buildings and some work by students of Afrikaanse Hoër Seunskool and Afrikaanse Hoër Meisieskool Pretoria as well as of Pretoria Boys High School.

The Art Auction opened on 10 July and closes on Friday 30 July at 8pm when all bids are finally closed. The collection date and place will be negotiated with buyers. Delivery will be for the cost of buyers.
